Don't know where to submit this week? Here's a list of five magazines taking creative writing submissions right now!
1. The Mark Literary Review
The Mark is an online magazine that's always open for submissions! The best part is that we never charge a fee to submit your work. We're down to read anything! There isn't a specific theme you need to adhere to, but we are most interested in reading creative writing that tears our heart out. Send in your best poetry or short stories and we'll get back to you within two weeks (sometimes sooner). We do not accept previously published work, but we do accept simultaneous submissions. 2. The New Southern Fugitives
The New Southern Fugitives is an online magazine looking for previously unpublished writing and art for its biweekly magazine. Their mission is to “tell a million tales of y’all means all” and they encourage submissions from indigenous, LGBTQIA+, disabled, current or previously incarcerated people, non-binary people, women, and people of color. They pay contributors $50 per book review, $40 per poem, $15 per page of prose (min $45, max $105), $40 per photograph or piece of visual art. It’s free to submit, but they offer an expedited feedback submission option for $3.99 on their Submittable page. If you select that option, they will return your submission within three weeks with comments on your work! It's important to note that they will soon be changing to an email submission method. They also nominate contributors for The Best of the Net Anthology, Best Small Fictions, and The Pushcart Prize. 3. Mineral Lit Mag
Mineral Lit Mag is an online magazine, “interested in what fascinates you, what perturbs you, and what keeps you up at night.” They accept poetry, flash fiction, and creative nonfiction. They accept poetry the 11th through the end of each month. Currently, they are accepting flash fiction and creative nonfiction submissions from 4/21/2020-5/20/2020 for their Summer Solstice issue. They also do a “Featured Poets Series” showcasing multiple poems from one author once a week. You can find their website here.
4. Lynx House Press: Blue Lynx Prize for Poetry 2020
The reading period for Lynx House Press' Blue Lynx Prize for Poetry is open until June 1st. The prize awards $2,000 and publication for a full-length poetry collection. The full length volume of poems must be previously unpublished and written by a U.S. author. Their Submittable page notes, "manuscripts may include poems that have appeared in journals, magazines, or chapbooks." However, poems that have appeared in full-length, single-author collections are not eligible. Entries must be at least 48 pages in length and the reading fee for submitting is $28. All entrants get a copy of a book from their back catalog. You can find their Submittable page here.
5. Kanstellation
Kanstellation is currently open to submissions for their fourth issue, “Digital Fingers, Digital Roots, Digital Families.” They are asking for reflections on what digital families and communities mean to you. How do you express yourself through your digital roots? There is no reader fee for submissions and they offer $30 for each accepted submission. They are looking for poetry, flash fiction/nonfiction, short fiction, creative nonfiction, and essay. You can find their website here.
