Cozy Up With Winter Romance Novels This Upcoming Season
As we approach the colder season, it’s now the best time to read winter romance novels. If you’re seeking your next cold weather book to read cozily at home, then I got you covered with ten of the best winter romance novels.
1. A Winter in New York by Josie Silver
From the same author of One Day In December, Josie Silver has another winter romance novel — A Winter in New York.
Iris just moved to New York City. The movies set in New York she grew up watching (all while eating gelato) with her mother really didn’t do the big city justice. One day, Iris’s best friend Bobby drags her through all the stalls in Little Italy and Iris notices an old photo of her mother’s in a gelateria.
Curiosity got the better of Iris, since she returns the next day and meets Gio who tells her the shop is on the verge of closing down. His uncle who is the sole keeper of the family gelato recipe no longer remembers the recipe, so they cannot make anymore. After sampling a batch, Iris realizes that their gelato and her gelato are the same. Iris offers to help them re-create the recipe and finds herself falling for Gio at the same time.
A winter romance surrounding gelato and NYC sounds amazing. You (and myself) have to add this best winter romance novel to your TBR!
2. How to Excavate a Heart by Jake Maia Arlow
In the mood to read your next best winter romance? Then may I present you with How to Excavate a Heart.
Shani literally runs into May with her mom’s Subaru (small details, really).
Running over someone with her car wasn’t on her winter break plan (obviously). However, a dog-walking job puts her together with May again. Now they’re snowed in on Christmas Eve and as things progress, Shani has to decide whether or not she wants to try at love again.
A funny and genuine romance that will warm your heart this winter season.
3. Unsteady by Payton Corinne
Nothing is better than a winter holiday romance but with a hockey and ice skating twist, am I right?
After a bad accident during the Frozen Four, hockey captain Rhys is back. Except he is plagued by the accident and he wonders if he’ll ever want to play again.
Sadie is barely making it by. With school work, debt, custody hearings for her younger brothers, skating practices — her life is booked full. It doesn’t help that she has a rather not good reputation on campus with her bad attitude and flakiness.
After Sadie witnesses one of Rhy’s panic attacks, an understanding strikes between them. Rhys is desperate to feel something other than his own emotions and Sadie wants to stop feeling so much. Healing and secrets don’t mix together.
If you want a winter romance book that will both leave you emotional and feel like a warm hug all at the same time, then Unsteady is the book for you.
4. This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens
A fateful winter romance book that will become your next favorite. Check out This Time Next Year.
Minnie knows for certain that her New Year’s birthday is unlucky and it’s all because of a man she’s never met — Quinn. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same time, but Quinn was given a cash prize for being the first baby born in the New Year. The prize that Minnie was supposed to have.
When Minnie runs into Quinn at a New Year’s party, she sees that he's a gorgeous, charming business owner who has it all, whereas Minnie is just trying to make it by. But why do they keep on bumping into each other if they’re from different worlds? And why do they want more after each encounter?
Sounds like the best winter romance to add to your TBR. I know that it’ll be on mine!
5. The Second Chance Year
What if you had a second chance to make it right? The Second Chance Year explores the answer to that question
Sadie’s life is a mess. She lost her job, apartment, and boyfriend basically all in one sitting. When a fortune teller offers her a wish, Sadie wishes to redo the entire year. As she makes her wish and opens her eyes, nothing has changed… And perhaps the most impulsive choice she has made yet, she kisses her brother’s best friend Jacob.
The next morning, Sadie finds herself returned back to January 1st of last year. Having to redo the entire year made Saide notice all the red flags she initially pushed to the side. And worst of all, she keeps on running into Jacob, whom she can’t stop thinking about. Maybe her mistake was just wishing for a second chance.
I love a winter romance with just a tad bit of magical realism. It adds to the romance magic! If you love that vibe as well, then you just might have to read the best winter romance novel to date.
6. Always, in December by Emily Stone
A heartwarming winter romance that will make you feel just about every emotion possible! If you want to read the best winter romance novels, then you might have to pick up Always, in December next.
Every December, Josie writes a letter to her parents who she lost on Christma many years ago. This year, her annual trip to the postbox is met with a bike collision with a stranger who will change the course of her life.
Max also avoids Christmas, but for different reasons, and coincidence leads them to spending the holiday together. Josie thought this might be the start of something new (High School Musical, anyone?) except Max disappears without a goodbye.
Fate will bring Josie and Max together over the course of the next year in the most unexpected places. But what will fate hold for them this upcoming Christmas?
7. The Lodge by Kayla Olson
Alix is the new ghostwriter of a memoir by Sebastian Green, a former boy band member. To write the memoir, he offers her a luxurious stay at a resort in Vermont, which Alix of course jumps at the opportunity.
As an entertainment journalist, Alix was one of the last people to interview the former boy band front man before he disappeared. And fans are desperate to know the full story. While at the luxury resort, she begins ski lessons with Tyler– the handsome instructor. As they begin their romance, Alix’s work takes a turn and she may be the only one who can solve the mystery of the boy band’s fall.
A winter romance and mystery all wrapped up in the best winter romance novel– The Lodge.
8. Escape To The Swiss Chalet by Carrie Walker
If you loved the movies Chalet Girl and Bridgit Jones, then you need to read the winter romance novel that expertly combines the best of both worlds into one book– Escape To The Swiss Chalet.
Holly hates the cold. So everyone is surprised when she moves to the Swiss Alps. However, a broken heart and the opportunity for working as a sous-chef for wealthy twins Genevieve and Luca makes Holly hate cold a little less.
Now Holly has new friends, enjoying snow-capped mountains, and a budding romance with the rich and handsome Luca, but what is the catch?
9. You Can Go Your Own Way by Eric Smith
The pinball arcade is the only piece that Adam has left of his dad, so he is determined to do whatever it takes to protect it from becoming a lifeless gaming cafe.
Whitney’s parents recently split and her boyfriend dumped her. Now she is running the social media of her dad’s super chain gaming cafe, which consists of arguing with the old arcade in town.
After a huge snowstorm, Adam and Whitney are trapped together inside the arcade. Being away from the real world melts away their tension and leaves them with something else that could be something more.
Being stuck with your online rival during a snowstorm never gets old. If you want to read the best winter romance in that sub-genre, then you need to check out You Can Go Your Own Way.
10. From Lukov With Love by Mariana Zapata
Speaking of rivals, what about teaming up with your ice skating rival to win gold? From Lukov With Love is easily my favorite and best (in my humble opinion) winter romance novel.
After years of figure skating that has been frankly disappointing, Jasmine knows her competing window is coming to an end. However, when the offer to reconsider her skating career and team up with the arrogant skater that she has hated for the last decade, Jasmine might just have to take the leap of fate.
I don’t know if anyone has seen the movie The Cutting Edge, but this winter romance novel has very similar vibes and I love it.
About the Author
Madi is an avid reader at heart. When she doesn't have her nose buried in a book, she enjoys creating social media content and watching romantic comedies. However, nothing beats a cozy night-in spent reading a book.
