Must-Read Cowboy Romances That Will Rope You In

Cowboy Romance Books That Will Steal Your Heart

Are you looking for your next cowboy romance read? Then look no further because I have a long list of book recommendations for you. All the book recommendations vary in terms of “cowboy-ness” and all recommendations are part of a series, so if you end up liking the first book, then don’t worry because there is an entire series for you to read next.

1. Flawless by Elsie Silver (The Chestnut Springs Series)

The Chestnut Springs series has taken the book community by storm. If you love cowboy romance books, then you likely have heard of the series before. The series starts off strong with the first book — Flawless.

Rhett is the face of professional bull riding. However, that changes when a rather unfortunate (and amusing) incident takes place that dampers his golden boy image. As retribution, his agent sends his daughter Summer to be Rhett’s PR go-to.

Of course, Rhett is annoyed to be babysat and is overall a rather grumpy person to be around. However, Summer sees that his grumpy persona is just a mask and won’t back down from a challenge.

Flawless is the epitome of a modern-day cowboy romance. There’s romance, tension, and humor all set in a “cowboy-esque” small town!

  1. Wild Love by Elsie Silver (The Rose Hill Series)

Can you tell that I am a fan of Elsie Silver? Wild Love is part of the Rose Hill series, which at the time of this blog being published, is the author’s new cowboy-esque romance book series. I will say this series is somewhat connected to The Chestnut Springs series, however it’s not absolutely necessary to read one before the other. You can choose however you want to read these series!

Childhood frenemies — that pretty much sums up Rosie and Ford.

After living a life in the city, Rosie is returning home to Rose Hill. Desperate for a job, Ford lets Rosie work at his new recording studio. However, that comes to a stop, when a young girl shows up to the studio claiming that Ford is her biological father.

With balancing a new studio and now being a father figure, Ford has his hands full. Which is exactly why he is keeping Rosie at arms length because he shouldn’t go there. With Wild Love being a romance novel, we all know that this “I shouldn’t” talk isn’t necessarily true.

If there is a sliding scale to cowboy romance books, then Wild Love is probably the least like a cowboy romance book. However, in my opinion, the Rose Hill setting is very cowboy to me and still gives off cowboy romance vibes.

3. Off to the Races by Elsie Silver (Gold Rush Ranch Series)

Ok, this is the last Elsie Silver series. I swear

Off to the Races is part of the Gold Rush Ranch series (aka Elsie Silver’s debut.)

Billie is talented and very independent. So when she lands a job at the Gold Rush Ranch, everything is almost perfect, except the owner — Vaughn. Billie and Vaughn immediately clash the moment that they meet. Even though they supposedly hate each other, they cannot stay away from each other.

If you’re looking for a cowboy romance that has banter and a very likable horse side character, then Off to the Races is the cowboy romance book for you!

4. Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage (Rebel Blue Ranch Series)

Admittedly, I have yet to read Done and Dusted, but it is on my TBR! One day I will read it. I promise.

Emmy has no idea what to do, as she has accomplished everything on her to-do list. She’s made it to her dream career, which is riding horses. However, when an accident unfortunately hinders her from getting back on the saddle, she has no choice but to return back to her small hometown in Wyoming.

Luke is a notorious bad boy bachelor. And he’s also an unofficial member of Emmy’s family. He’s her older brother’s best friend and spent most of their childhood antagonizing Emmy.

When Emmy walks into Luke’s bar after years of not seeing each other, Luke can’t take his eyes off of her. Except Emmy shouldn’t consider romance at the moment and Luke shouldn’t go after his best friend’s sister. But what if they both ignored the “shouldn’t” and instead acted upon their feelings.

The cover of Done and Dusted screams cowboy romance to me personally. I mean Luke has a cowboy hat on, what more can you ask for?

5. Alive and Wells by Bailey Hannah (Wells Ranch Series)

If you’re specifically looking for a cowboy romance about a city girl and a cowboy guy, then this is the book for you!

Cecily is a self-proclaimed city girl. When her strained marriage takes a violent turn, her friend offers her a new job and refuge at Wells Ranch.

A cattle ranch is a hard adjustment for Cecily and it especially doesn't help that her new boss Austin is sending mixed signals. However, Cecily can’t get involved with her boss and she doesn’t want to risk the potential fallout.

Austin thinks that Cecily won’t be sticking around for long and doesn’t want to get involved either. Everything changes when Cecily’s past threatens the ranch and Austin realizes he wants her to stay.

Personally, I haven't read Alive and Wells, but based on the premise alone, it sounds like the cowboy romance will touch on more emotional and heartfelt topics all while set on a ranch turned workplace.

6. Tame the Heart by Ava Hunter (Runaway Ranch Series)

Ruby is armed with a bucket list and a secret, as she ends up in a tiny town in Montana. There she meets a grumpy and stubborn rancher, Charlie, who wants Ruby to leave.

In a small town, it’s hard to avoid each other and Ruby ends up owing Charlie a favor — working for him for three months to save Runaway Ranch.

The more time spent with Charlie, Ruby begins to see a different, more soft side to him. While they are falling for each other, there is danger amidst that threatens the ranch and their safety.

Tame the Heart is a cowboy romance that has heart wrenching and suspenseful moments that sets it apart from other cowboy romances on this listicle.

7. The Bribe by Devney Perry (Calamity Montana Series)

I’ve talked a lot about cowboy romances where one of the characters is a rancher or farmer, but what about country musicians? The Bribe certainly explores country stardom.

As the sheriff in Calamity, Montana, he never expected to find a woman head-to-head with a bison on a hiking trail. And he certainly didn’t expect to see the same woman again as he was pulling over a shiny, out of place car.

She lied to Duke. Tried to give a fake name, when her real name is Lucy Ross, the famous country music singer who suddenly disappeared.

Duke isn’t sure why Lucy lied, but she’s not talking. Instead, she offers him a bribe to keep her secret. Except Duke doesn’t care about the bribe, he only wants to know why she is on the run.

8. Crossroads by Devney Perry (Haven River Ranch Series)

This is yet another book and series that I have yet to read, but one day I will read it!

Indya has known West since she was eight years old. They spent every summer together when Indya’s family visited Montana. She loved him, but when she was twenty-three, life ripped them apart.

Many years later, Indya is reluctantly returning to the ranch as its new owner. West wants her gone, but knows that he needs her help to save his family’s legacy.

Indya and West now have to work together on the ranch, while facing old memories. As long as Indya doesn’t allow herself to fall for West again, then she can finally say goodbye.

The Montana ranch setting of the book screams cowboy romance to me. Despite not reading Crossroads before, I’ve heard it’s an emotional read that is all about second chances.

9. Strung Along by Hannah Cowan (Cherry Peak Series)

Strung Along is less of a cowboy romance and more of a cowboy-esque type of romance book, if you know what I mean. Another example of “what about the country stars?”

Anna doesn’t know where she went wrong. After a breakup, she ends up in a small Canadian town called Cherry Peak, which just so happens to be the hometown of rising country star, Brody.

One brief encounter makes Anna realize how much of a brooding jerk Brody really is. She doesn't have time for that. But if Anna hates him so much, then why does she always look for him, or why does he do nice things for her?

As Anna is trying to rebuild her life together, Brody is preparing to leave Cherry Peak. The thought of losing Brody keeps Anna up at night. Will they be able to find their footing, or will they have to call it quits?

10. Rewrite Our Story by Kat Singleton (Sutten Mountain Series)

Rewrite Our Story is another “cowboy-esque” cowboy romance. So, if you want cowboy vibes, whether it be the characters or the setting, then this could be your next read!

Mare had spent her entire life loving her best friend’s older brother. Every birthday wish was spent on hoping that Cade would finally notice her. And one day he finally did.

It's been several years since Mare had left Sutten Mountain. She left the town heartbroken. Mare fueled the pain into creating a bestselling novel so that she would never have to return to that small town. However, a tragedy struck that forced Mare to face the man that left her heartbroken.

The more time Mare spends with Cade, the more she sees glimpses of the past. Cade and Mare have a ton of unfinished business.

11. The Story We Wrote by M. Hartley (Faircloud Series)

I’ve heard that The Story We Wrote is a light-hearted cowboy romance that still packs a punch.

Aspen is a people-pleaser, especially toward her family. Growing up in Texas, she has come to love the small town that she calls home. She wants to be a romance author, but there’s just one small problem– she has never been in love. With a job loss, Aspen is motivated to make her dreams come true.

Boone is the bachelor of the town and a ranch hand on his family’s farm. When his sister leaves town, he’s forced to find a solution to keep the farm running. Fate pushes Aspen and Boone together, which results in Boone offering Aspen an opportunity that she cannot refuse.

The reformed bachelor and the book liver strike an unlikely friendship and unexpected feelings.
